Tomany and Kane mountain fire towers

On Sunday, I headed back up to the Adirondacks to try to reach the summit of Tomany Mountain. This is one I tried back in April but the snow was just too deep without snowshoes. This time it was a lot easier to see the trail and follow it.

Along the way you could see some of the former telephone poles and trail markers.

At the summit was the foundation of the former observers cabin and a lot of debris.

When they took the tower down they simply tossed the pieces off the side of the mountain.

After a little while of looking around, I headed down and over to Kane Mountain, a mountain I had done a few years ago. It was nice out and I had time, so why not?

Today though I would take a different route down, making a loop hike, to a reservoir near the parking lot.

All in all, it was a fun day to be in the woods.
