Owls Head Fire Tower

On Sunday, I went with some of the SAOAC members up to Long Lake in the Adirondacks and hiked up to the Owls Head Fire Tower. This appears to be an easy hike at first, except once you get two miles in, you hit an area where you climb 800 feet in just about half a mile.

Boardwalks for when it’s muddy
Trail junction to Lake Eaton
Still an easy hike
Old telephone/power pole to the Observers Cabin

Once you reach the site of the old observers cabin, there’s still about half a mile of hiking up to go..

On the way back we took the side trail over to Lake Eaton.

This is an alternate way to Owls Head, by taking a boat across the lake, then following the signs over to the Owls Head trail
